About

Amy Shapiro has been guiding students and their families through the college admissions process for over 15 years. Born and raised in New York City, Amy began her career as a Books Publicist after earning her Bachelor of Arts in English from Tulane University. A true counselor and educator at heart, Amy thought about how she could apply her publicity skills to the field of education and counseling. With this in mind, Amy pursued a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Guidance from New York University’s Steinhardt School of Education.

Following her graduation from NYU, Amy was hired to create the Guidance Curriculum at Claremont Preparatory School. In 2007, following an offer from Gulliver Preparatory School in Miami, Florida, Amy and her husband moved to Miami where she worked as a College and Guidance Counselor for six years. During this time, Amy attended the Harvard Summer Institute on College Admissions and enjoyed strengthening her connections with college admissions representatives across the country. She also learned how college admissions decisions are made, as well as how to bring a student to life in the admissions process, in addition to other topics integral to college admissions and higher education.

In 2013, Amy was hired as the sole College Advisor at Coral Reef Senior High and created the model for the existing College Assistance Program. She also orchestrated the largest annual college fair offered at any public high school in Miami-Dade County and further developed relationships with admissions representatives. During her last year at Coral Reef, Amy’s students were offered over $41 million in merit scholarships.

Throughout her tenure in schools, Amy always enjoyed working with one or two private clients. Prior to joining International College Counselors full time, Amy started her own college and educational consulting firm where she helped dozens of students of all backgrounds gain admissions to various universities. Amy visits multiple college campuses yearly; she is a licensed Guidance Counselor in the state of New York and Florida, a member of NACAC and SACAC, and a mother of three amazing children.
